What’s your favorite part of your job?
I really enjoy working with infants and toddlers. It so fun to watch them change and develop. I also really enjoy editing each session. I edit several of the best of each pose, to make it easier to choose from the proofs. I also really love that I get to be crafty and creative with props, background setups, etc. I love trying new things, and seeing what I can come up with. Over the past few years, I have enjoyed working toward creating a certain look both in our studio, and in the photographs that I create.
What kind of sessions take the longest?
Senior sessions are typically my longest shooting sessions because of all the outfit changes. We are also going for the most variety with scenery, props, backdrops, etc, so all that takes time. We also usually do a combination of in studio and location. Editing these sessions also takes the longest, partly because these sessions have the highest number of proofs, typically about 50 unique images.
Who is your favorite photographer?
Right now, I would say Heidi Hope Photography is my favorite. Her work is extremely timeless and tasteful- I love everything she does!
What do you use to edit?
I am still editing on CS3, but it gets the job done. I really like my workflow even though it can be time consuming. Typically I will go through a RAW set and fine tune them, and then open them in photoshop and run actions etc and then save a copy as a jpeg. I always keep an original RAW file of all my proofs in case there is ever a need to go back and re-edit the original image.
Do you like shooting outside or in studio best?
I love outside because there are so many variations with lighting and scenery, but I really love working in my studio. It really depends on the look I am going for. Babies and toddlers I love doing in the studio.
