Until more recently, my method for remembering things and organizing myself has included a lot of scribblings on random paper and sticky notes all over my desk. I’ve relied a lot on google calendar over the years because my husband and I have to have a way to share our schedules so we aren’t double booking ourselves. But this year I really wanted something to manage my time better for work, household related things, and kids schedules.
Somewhat on a whim I decided to try out Plum Paper Planners. They aren’t super expensive so I didn’t think it was too big of a risk. They have different layout styles you can choose from and also start with whatever month you want which is really nice! I chose the lined columns layout.
I’ve still been using google calendar for all my appointments. I sit down with my planner at the beginning of each week and plan out everything from my google calendar and the kids school newsletters, etc.
I love that I can see the whole week at a time. After I ordered this planner, I did some research to see how other people use it, and I loved seeing how much people use washi tape and stickers to make custom headers and dividers.
I’ve been dividing the daily columns into four sections for each day: schedule, kids, house, and work. It also has a little “weekly lists” sidebar and a “notes” sidebar. Things that I need to get done but not necessarily on specific days go in the weekly lists section and under notes I usually keep a little errands list for myself.
Each month has a Notes page, and I’ve been using that for ideas/planning, listing out my orders and blogs that I need to get done. I also stick my random sticky notes on that page which is great because then they are coming back and forth with my from my office to the house, since I work in both locations.
I taped the “homemaking schedule” I made for myself on the inside of the back cover so I can refer to that each week, and that is a lot of what goes under my “house” category each day. That’s also the category that is least likely to get done…
My main goal is to do my best to use it each week, and write everything down that comes into my head so I am trying to remember less.
This is one way I am trying to stay more organized in 2015. Hopefully I will find time soon to blog about a few other things I’ve been trying so far this year!
