Hi! Remember me? I’ve been pretty distracted lately! Normally in December I am super focused on work. It’s a busy time of year for me and I have a lot of last minute things to get done right up until Christmas! This year, I decide to take some extra time off before Christmas.
I did my walk-in sessions at the end of November and shot a few more sessions in December. I had already decided to take off the time that my girls had off from school this year, but I ended up taking off a week even earlier than that.
We started in on some house projects the first week of December. Last Christmas, Phil started a huge project with putting new flooring and sub flooring in our upstairs bath and closet that we were turning into a laundry room. We had those ripped up for a long time last year, but finally got the flooring done and washer and dryer moved. Things kinda stalled out after that as Phil has had an extremely busy year with work. So, for my birthday he decided to take some time off and help finish that project. Our bathroom vanity needed new doors (which he made because he’s awesome) and we needed to paint the whole vanity and finish painting the walls. As is always the case, these projects turned into a few other “little” projects and we removed wallpaper from our back stairway and painted and also painted our spare room. Whew! All of that means our upstairs is really looking done! Every room has either new carpet or flooring and every single room and the long hallway were painted.
We moved in July of 2014 and I’m so happy with progress we’ve made! Next up on our list we have a major kitchen/half bath renovation. We plan to wait on that for a while well we save up for it. We will definitely be hiring someone for that project.
So, the house projects had me distracted for sure, but even more than that was the news that we found out the end of November that the adoption of our foster son (who we’ve had since he was 4 days old) was going to be finalized on December 17th. This has been an incredibly long journey, and a hard one, and I think a lot of the emotions from the last 2 and a half years really caught up to me! I needed some time to process! I was so glad I had taken that extra time off and had lots of time to think and while I was painting. Juggling work and family is always a hard balance, and sometimes it’s just not possible to keep doing both. It was nice to take a mental break from some work while I had so much going on in my own life!
We had a really sweet (and quick) Adoption Day together this past Thursday and we were so thankful when it was done and we were handed our official adoption decree.Phil had a big work project he had to head right to, so he left and I took the girls back to school, and then later that night we all met back at the school for the girls Christmas program. Super exhausting day, but it ended up being a wonderful one. This girls said it was the best day of their whole lives!
Despite everything I’ve had going on in my personal life, this has been one of my best years in business! I’ve been really happy being able to focus on more of what I love with my work. As always, thank you so much for supporting me and allowing me to be a small part of your memories every year. It really is a privilege for me to be able to work with so many wonderful families who value what I do.
I am already feeling more mentally present now that we have some of that behind us and ready to tackle some big things in the coming year for Center Street Photography. I can’t wait to get back in the studio in January, but for now I am enjoying lots of cozy days at home, watching Christmas movies, and loving on my 3 kiddos!
Merry Christmas and Many Blessings in 2016!
