How far in advance should I book my session?
My Saturdays fill up the fastest, so if you know you need a weekend time slot, I recommend contacting me at least several weeks in advance. My week day shoots are more flexible and can usually get you in within 1-2 weeks.
How long will my session last?
This varies a lot with what type of session I am shooting and how many people and outfit changes are involved. Because most of my sessions involve children, I do work quickly. I rarely go over an hour for a session.
Where will it be?
That is up to you. I will discuss what look you are wanting at the time you book with me. I shoot a lot of my outside portraits at a local park but if you have a specific look in mind I also have other ideas. I also do sessions at your home or property.
How many people can be included in the photos?
As many people as are in your immediate family for no extra charge. If you would like a few pictures with Grandma and Grandpa or another family member during your session, that is totally fine and no extra charge. Extended families have their own pricing.
Can I request specific photos to be taken? Yes, I am always open to hear what you have in mind, and always willing to try specific poses you suggest. I do recommend only bringing a couple ideas, as too many get overwhelming for everyone.
Can our pets be a part of our photos? Yes, during outside sessions and possibly in the studio with prior permission. It is up to you to work with your pet however, as children are my specialty, not animals.
What do we need to bring?
You are welcome to bring clothing changes. I have a variety of props that I use with my session so no need to bring those along unless there is something that is important to be included in the photos.
What should we do to prepare for the session?
It’s a great idea to feed your kiddos before you come and bring along snacks and other soothing things for them. Mostly, don’t stress about it! Try to roll with what your kids throw at you. If you are calm, they will be calmer.
If it rains, do you have a studio to shoot at?
I can move sessions to my studio in case of bad weather, but if you want outdoor photos I leave enough time in my schedule to be able to move your session to a better day without any problems.
Will these images be posted online or any social networks?
Only with your specific permission.
When is the best time of year to schedule my session?
For outdoor family sessions, I work mainly in April through October but do schedule outside sessions at other times, weather permitting. I work in my studio year round.
What happens if you’re sick or are unable to shoot the session on the scheduled day?
In the many years I’ve been doing this I have only rescheduled a handful of sessions because of illness. One of those was because I went into labor with my 2nd child! :) I do my very best to keep the time we planned, and if I have to reschedule I will give you the first priority on the times I have available.
How will we know how to pose?
You may not! And that is totally fine! It’s my job to make you look good and I will make sure you look comfortable and relaxed! My goal is for you to feel comfortable and natural, and for this to be a fun experience!
How many outfit changes can we have?
For family portraits, I don’t suggest more than two outfits total. For baby sessions (not newborn), my average client brings 2-5 outfits knowing that they may not all be used.
What if my children act up on the day of the shoot and we can’t get any good photos?
“Acting up” really doesn’t faze me. I’ve been photographing children for a long time. I tend to let them take the lead and you would be surprised at the portraits you end up with most of the time! If it really is an off day for you child I do offer 1 reshoot at no additional charge. I also do most of my child sessions first thing in the morning, so that everyone is fresh and happy.
How long have you been shooting portrait sessions?
A long time! I started as a hobbyist in 2005 and started with clients in 2007. I have been shooting in studio and on location that entire time, so none of this is new to me that is for sure!
Can this session be done at multiple locations?
Yes, but I would suggest no more than two, and not too far apart.
If you do post “sneak-peaks” online on your social network site, do you have to post mine?
I do post 1-2 images with your specific permission. I also do a blog post with the favorites from your session but that is also optional.
How many photos will I receive? Because I shoot with more of a relaxed style, I tend to include a lot of images of each pose. I don’t have a set number that I say per session, but babies generally have 30-50 images per session, and families 45-70+. I want you to be able to see everything that turned out well so that you can be the one to chose your favorites.
Do you offer professional retouching?
This is included in all regular editing unless there is something extra that you are concerned about. If you mention it to be beforehand I can be sure to include that in my edits.
How long does it take to get the photos back?
You will see your proof gallery within 1 week of your session most of the time. It is very important to me to get your proofs back to you as quickly as I can.
What should I/we wear?
I will include more information about this for you after you have booked a session with me.
What products do you offer?
I offer prints, canvases, albums, etc. I also offer digital files.
Do you have any samples of your portrait sessions?
Please scroll through my blog or select a category from my blog categories to see my latest work.
What if I don’t like my portraits?
I offer 1 reshoot with no additional charge or a full refund. However, that can only be done before final products are delivered to you.
If we end up needing more time on the day of the session, can it be added on then?
I do not book myself back to back with sessions. I leave a lot of room for you! So if we need more time for a shy child or you have more poses you want, I am more than happy to give it you.
What days are you available to shoot portrait sessions?
I take sessions Monday through Saturday. I don’t take sessions on a Sunday unless I have to reschedule for weather.
Can I order more prints/products later?
Your gallery stays up to order for 4 weeks.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, Check or Credit are accepted for session fees. All of my print ordering is done online via credit card or paypal.
